A-guide-to-identifying-fake-cosmetics-
It’s 2024, and the number of fake products in the market is still on the increase. If you have ever gotten or used a fake product then you would understand how infuriating the realization can be.
According to the International Trade Administration, ITA, the beauty industry continues to expand with more services and products being provided and produced. It's no surprise quacks have seen this as an opportunity to infiltrate beauty brands and tamper with the quality of their products. Some notable brands in Nigeria have also been made their targets. Some times in 2012, the manufacturers of Eva range of soaps expressed concern about the way importers of fake and substandard soaps are sabotaging their efforts in giving customers high quality. I made my research on this and it was appalling to discover that not only did the imposters succeed, but that a lot of people have more access to the fake soaps than the original.
While sales of fake and substandard products have become the reality of the day, here are a few pointers which will help you get only real and authentic products. The first point is to check the packaging for any misspellings or errors. Substandard products will always make a mistake in copying. It could be either using the wrong words or misplaced logos. These things are always easy to spot out.
The second point is to always compare packaging to the brand’s official website to see if it matches up. Visiting a brand’s website frequently gives you the basic knowledge you need in identifying their authentic products. Additionally, ensure to check the expiration dates of products in the market. Counterfeit cosmetics may not have an expiration date, or the date may be printed in the wrong place. In conclusion, checking the consistency and smell of the product helps in easily identifying fake cosmetics. Is the product you are trying to buy now lighter in consistency than the previous one? Does it have a different smell? Does the color looks the same? If it looks or smells off, it’s likely a fake.
If you are ever unsure about a cosmetic, it’s best to purchase it from a reputable source or directly from the company. A beauty company that sells directly to consumers in Nigeria is Oriflame Sweden. Would you like to get registered and gain direct access to the company?
