The year will soon come to an end and I'm sure you'd like to end it with a bang! You've probably made some resolutions already and have decided to let go of some old habits. Well, while those are commendable, I'd like to suggest one more thing to add to your New Year's resolutions: quit popping your pimples!

I bet you didn't expect this to be one of your New Year's resolutions! Pimples are an inevitable part of life, and while you might not like having them, popping them won't make them go away. Many of us have the urge to get rid of our pimples as soon as we see them. Some of us try to pick at them, squeeze them, or pop them, thinking we're getting rid of them once and for all. However, this approach can actually do more harm than good. Instead of banishing our pimples, we may be causing them to become inflamed or infected.

• Pimples are often filled with pus and fluid, and when you pop them, you are essentially bursting a small blister. This can be quite painful and may even lead to bleeding. Additionally, it's not an effective way to get rid of a pimple. Popping it will not remove the underlying cause of the pimple, and you may end up making the problem worse.

• Also, popping pimples can cause infection and scarring. When you pop a pimple, you can introduce bacteria into the open wound, which can lead to an infection. Additionally, squeezing or picking at pimples can cause permanent damage to the skin, such as scarring or dark spots.

• Finally, popping pimples can also cause the inflammation to spread, leading to more pimples.

Now that you know that popping your pimples is not the best way to treat them, what can you do instead? One option I usually recommend is to use spot treatments containing ingredients like salicylic acid or tea tree oil. These ingredients are naturally antibacterial and can help dry out your pimples while keeping your skin clear and healthy. You can also visit a dermatologist or skincare consultant for other treatment options that are best suited to your skin type.
