The female football team of Nigeria, Super Falcons has qualified for the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA Women World Cup in Australia-New Zealand. This is after an impressive against a dominating Republic of Ireland who kept the falcons on their toes for 90 minutes.

They started the tournament with a 0-0 draw against Olympic champions Canada, then stunned the hosts Australia 3-2 in their second match. Furthermore, they were able to build on that momentum and held their final group match opponents, Republic of Ireland to a draw. As a result of finishing second in their group, Nigeria qualified for the Round of 16 knockout stages as the second-placed teams.

Overall, Nigeria's performance at the 2023 World Cup has been impressive so far but they still have some way to go if they want to challenge for the title. Although, one of the biggest strengths of the Super Falcons is the attacking prowess of Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade who have been dynamic and key to the success of the team so far, they still have to put more efforts into creating consistent goal-scoring opportunities so as to be on a safer side.

They will likely face England in the round of 16 as it currently tops the group with 6 points ahead of China and Denmark. The match will be coming up on Monday 7th August, 2023 at 8:30am WAT.
